Austin Porta Potty Rental covers portable toilets, handwashing stations and restroom trailers for sites in Austin, Travis County and nearby towns. Describe the site, the dates and the expected headcount when you call. Phones are answered 24/7, and a visit the same day only when a technician is free.
Austin's portable-toilet work falls into three kinds. There are event crowds at Zilker Metropolitan Park, the Travis County Expo Center during Rodeo Austin, and the downtown streets that fill for SXSW each March. There are construction crews on downtown and highway sites, and there are one-off jobs such as weddings, parades and storm cleanup. Each kind has its own headcount rules, permit track and servicing pattern, so a festival booking at the Expo Center is planned differently from a crew of twelve on a downtown lot. The sections below cover the counts, the permit offices and the heat that shapes servicing here, and the event page on the services list covers the crowd side in more detail.
The heat changes the work more than the headcount does. The average first 100 °F day falls on 4 July, and an average year brings about 29 triple-digit days. Units standing in full sun need attention more often, shade placement matters on job sites, and handwashing demand rises through June, July and August. Creek flooding is a separate risk. The Halloween 2013 floods damaged homes along Onion and Williamson creeks, so any placement near those drainages needs a site check before the unit goes down. Sites in West Lake Hills, Pflugerville, Manor and Buda are arranged with those cities, and sites in unincorporated Travis County are arranged with the county.

Calls are answered at any hour, including evenings and weekends, so a site problem does not wait for the office to open. A visit the same day happens only when a technician is free, so book ahead for any dated event or job.
Event ratios differ by source, so the number is worked out against your expected peak crowd and then confirmed with the permitting office. Construction counts follow the federal OSHA table for the size of the crew on the site.
The ADA standard's 5 % requirement, as the city's own event guidance states it, applies within each cluster, and Austin's event guidance recommends 5 to 10 %. An accessible unit only works with a firm, level pad and an accessible route to it.
Portable-toilet waste is treated as chemical toilet waste under state guidance. Providers that haul it need a state registration and may dispose only at authorized facilities.
Give the city or ZIP, the type of site and the first and last day of use. A short note on how the truck reaches the placement area helps a technician judge access before the visit.
Pick standard, flushable, ADA or trailer units, sized to peak headcount or crew size. Ask the permitting office which ratio it applies, because the city and the parks department do not use the same figure.
Events inside city limits go through the Austin Center for Events on tier deadlines. Mass gatherings in unincorporated Travis County need a signed contract with the toilet provider attached to the county application.
The provider confirms the price for the site before delivery. Where items sit on a sidewalk, leave 5 feet of continuous, undisturbed pedestrian and ADA access.
Servicing is set for the length of the rental, and more often in summer heat. Pickup happens at the end of the job, and the provider confirms the timing with you on the day.
City guidance works to about one toilet per 50 people at expected peak attendance. The parks department applies a lower figure of two toilets per 500 attendees for events over 250, so confirm the number with the permitting office.
City guidance applies its one-per-50 figure to Tier 3 and Tier 4 events, and to Tier 2 events lasting four or more hours with alcohol, food or beverages. It also recommends 5 to 10 % of the units be ADA-accessible, which is above the federal floor. The parks department works from a different figure and decides whether temporary toilets are needed at all, so the two numbers are not interchangeable. Use the peak crowd, not the daily average, when you work the count.
Outside the city limits the state standard is different. Under 25 Texas Administrative Code 265.3, toilet facilities at a Texas mass gathering are set at no more than 50 persons per toilet seat, separate for each sex, plainly marked and screened from public view, with handwashing near each toilet location. Read the full count method in the event guide before you settle a number.
Events inside city limits are sorted by the Austin Center for Events into four tiers, with submission deadlines of 3 business days for Tier 1, 30 calendar days for Tier 2, 120 for Tier 3 and 180 for Tier 4. Sites in West Lake Hills, Pflugerville, Manor and Buda go through those cities, and unincorporated areas go through Travis County.
Right-of-way permits for events are issued by the Transportation and Public Works Office of Special Events, and only after an event application has gone to the Austin Center for Events. Tier 3 and Tier 4 events get preliminary approval or denial within 10 business days and final approval 30 calendar days before the event. Deadlines shift in spring festival season, so check them early.
For work that closes a sidewalk or driveway on private property, a Temporary Use of Right of Way permit is needed. The city asks for 311 to be notified at least three days before a planned sidewalk closure, pedestrian routes must stay accessible, and the approved permit and traffic-control plan stay on site. Ask the permitting office what applies to a unit on your particular site.
For 20 or fewer workers, one facility is the minimum. For more than 20, the federal table calls for one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 workers, and for 200 or more, one per 50 workers.
These figures come from the table in 29 CFR 1926.51(c)(1), as quoted in OSHA standard interpretation letters. A toilet that takes too long to reach does not count as provided, and a unit in unsanitary condition does not count toward the minimum. Plan the placement so the crew can walk to it within a reasonable time, and schedule servicing so the units stay usable through the shift.
An informal 1993 Justice Department letter, which says it is not binding, indicates that portable toilets used only by construction personnel are not required to be accessible. Texas's construction rest-break ordinance in Austin was overturned by state law in 2023, so the rest-break rules should be checked with the city before they are relied on.
Heat is the defining condition here. The average first 100 °F day falls on 4 July, and an average year has about 29 triple-digit days, so servicing and shade placement need planning from June through September.
The record is 90 triple-digit days, set in 2011, and 2023 came second with 80. The earliest 100 °F day on record was 4 May 1984, and in each of the five years before that reporting the first triple-digit day fell in May or June. That means a May job can face full-heat conditions well before the summer calendar suggests.
Plan for the heat in three ways: place units where they get the most shade the site allows, keep the handwashing supply full on job sites where crews work through the afternoon, and set the servicing schedule tighter for the hottest weeks. The provider sets the actual interval for the site, so raise the heat with the technician when you book.

No single price applies to a porta potty rental in Austin, and this guide gives none.
The Austin Center for Events sorts special-event applications into four tiers, and each tier has its own deadline before the first event day.
The federal construction table in 29 CFR 1926.51(c)(1) sets the minimum toilets for a crew: one facility for 20 or fewer workers, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 workers above 20, and one per 50 at 200 or more.
Phones are answered 24/7, so you can call at any hour about a site that needs a unit. A visit the same day happens only when a technician is free, and it cannot be promised in advance. For any dated event or construction job, book ahead so the placement and permit steps have time to run.
The ADA standard requires at least one, or 5 %, of the portable toilets in each cluster to be accessible in placement and unit size, as the city's own event guidance states it. Austin's event guidance recommends 5 to 10 %, which is above that floor. Accessible placement also needs a firm, level pad and an accessible route to it.
Events inside city limits are permitted through the Austin Center for Events, and a Temporary Use of Right of Way permit covers closing a sidewalk or driveway. Sites in West Lake Hills, Pflugerville, Manor and Buda are arranged with those cities, and unincorporated areas with Travis County. Ask the permitting office what applies to a unit on your site before you book.
Portable-toilet waste is treated as chemical toilet waste under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality guidance. Providers that haul it must be registered with the state under 30 TAC 312.142(a). Disposal is only at authorized facilities such as wastewater treatment plants, sanitary landfills and authorized land-application sites.
Outside the city limits, a gathering of more than 2,500 people, or more than 500 where under-21s and alcohol conditions apply, lasting more than five continuous hours or running into 10 pm to 4 am, is a mass gathering. The county permit requires a signed contract with the toilet provider and a site plan showing each toilet labeled Men or Women. Health and sanitation are reviewed against 25 TAC 265.1 to 265.3.
October is the busiest single month, with Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Metropolitan Park over two weekends and the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Del Valle. Organizers have said park restrooms were upgraded to flushable toilets, and accessible portable toilets are on site. No portable-unit count for the festival is published, so plan from the expected attendance and the ratio.
